Food Trucks, Graffiti & American Idiot, Oh My!

Posted: February 01 2012

We couldn't have asked for more perfect weather on opening night, especially considering we invited theatre patrons out onto Licthin Plaza for our first-ever Food Truck Rodeo. January 31 isn't known for sunny skies and temperatures in the high 60s, but we welcomed it with open arms.

We invited Victor Knight, a local artist, to come out on the plaza and do some graffiti artwork. Here is the sketch he showed us last week:

I loved the sketch and knew that the finished product would be equally amazing. Since I was waiting on our food trucks to arrive, I got outside to enjoy the nice weather and worked on the plaza. This also allowed me to track Victor's progress and I just so happened to take lots of photos. Here is the progression from about 2PM until the evening.

Isn't Victor's work awesome? Meanwhile, all of the food trucks arrived one by one...it was exciting to meet and greet with the owners and cooks and say hello before people started arriving.

Chirba Chirba brought some of the best dumplings I've ever eaten - I sampled the 'juicy buns' but I heard that all options were delicious.

KoKYu came next and makes beautiful Korean BBQ tacos, sliders and lots of other goodies. I was able to try the buffalo chicken slider and the short rib taco - both were amazing.

Then came Baguett About It! I (sadly) did not get to sample anything from their truck but heard that it was a big hit!

Only Burger arrived next and I bet you can guess what they make...burgers. I also ate one of those burgers and the bun was so crunchy and good. Yum!

Then, ChickNQue rolled up on the plaza and they serve up yummy BBQ. My husband had one of their chicken BBQ sandwiches and I stole a bite and I'm glad I did - it was so good.

Lo Yo on the Go came with lots of frozen, yummy treats in hand - my favorite was the chocolate yogurt. They have all sorts of toppings, too!

Klausie's was the final truck to arrive before the Rodeo officially started. If you haven't had a piece of Klausie's pizza or loaded bread, you are missing out. I didn't get to have any last night but have sampled them both before and they are good.

The Food Truck Rodeo kicked off at 5pm and once the sun went down the plaza filled up with lots of theatre patrons and American Idiot fans.

All of the trucks had long, but quick-moving, lines and everyone was having such a great time.

Thank you to all of the trucks and theatre goers who came out to our first Food Truck Rodeo - you made it a huge success! It was a great event and everyone left promptly at 7:25PM so they wouldn't miss the 7:30PM curtain. It was perfect. American Idiot opened and the crowd went nuts! The show runs tonight through Sunday, February 5. Come see it!
